Using Getright to maximise the efficiency of your download
This tutorial was written for people like me who download a lot of files or big files on a regular basis and are fed up with manually having to reconnect to the site after either being thrown off the internet or server. To also maximise the bandwidth on a download of multiple files.
What is bandwidth
Bandwidth is the amount of space on your chosen form of communication with the Internet e.g.: Cable, ISDN, ADSL, Modem. Over a normal telephone line using a 56K modem in ideal conditions your bandwidth will be 56 Kilobits a second or more under exceptional circumstances. That means you will be able to download or upload at 56KB a second. As you may have noticed on many downloads, the speed is less than ideal. Say you are downloading a number of files and the speed of 1 download is 2.5KB then over half your bandwidth is not being used if you download 2 files at a time then the speed is 2.5 + 2.5 = 5KB Second. Which is a more efficient use of your bandwidth.
Reasons for using a download application
Have you ever been to an ftp site to download a game and when you get there it is divided into 40 files. If it’s a http site and you use windows download client you can download two files at a time, then you have to wait for that to download then click another two and so on infinitem, or if it’s one large file say 30MB you get to 29.5MB then get disconnected from the server, you have to start all over again. If you are connected to an FTP site your client will only download 1 file at a time and you can’t search the rest of the site until the download is finished. These are all reasons for using a download application.
What is a download application
A download program will store from a site a number of files and download them as many at a time as you wish. Therefore maximising your bandwidth. It will also browse a site to find files then store and download them. It will on most occasions resume your broken downloads from about 4KB back from the place you were disconnected from, the server . If as in the uk you get disconnected from your ISP every two hours it will automatically dialup reconnect you to the internet and start your downloads again. This is only a brief explanation of their function they will do much more.
Using Getright to download from an ftp site
I use Getright, so that is the program that I will use to explain how to browse and download automatically as many files as you like from an ftp site that you have already browsed with your ftp client.
Get From www.getright.com the latest version of Getright. Then go to astalavista.box.sk search for the crack for that version. Install crack and configure the program using the information and wizards supplied with program and crack. Next browse for a program using your ftp client, when you have found one copy to notepad the address e.g.ftp://128.144.68.20/myfile/sometinghere now fire up getright if you have no screen then right click the Getright icon in the taskbar from the popup box left click Getright download status when the status screen is displayed left click tools then getright browser. When the browser window is open copy your ftp address into the address bar, press Enter on your keyboard this will take you to your files in the Getright browser window. Now whilst in your files folder press crtl/a on the keyboard this will select all the files in the folder ( you can use ctrl and click on a file to deselect it) now right click on any of the selected files, then choose download from the popup box. This will copy all the file names to the status screen if the download does not start immediately, then in the status window click the automatic downloading button this will start the downloading process. Use the left pane on the status window to browse the rest of the site and add files to your download as explained.
